Who we are

Palavra (palavra.space) is a language-learning app operated by Bohdan Kruchak, who is the controller of your personal data. Questions or requests about your data: [email protected].

What we collect

  • Account data from Google sign-in: your name, email address and profile picture. We never see your Google password.
  • Learning data you create: words, translations, collections, practice history, chats with the AI tutor, lessons, homework, messages and notes.
  • Audio and files you choose to record or upload (for example voice messages, lesson recordings or attachments).
  • Settings and preferences, such as languages, reminder time and notification choices, including a browser push subscription if you turn notifications on.
  • Billing data if you buy a paid plan: payments are handled by Stripe, and we only keep the plan, status and Stripe customer reference, never your card number.
  • Basic technical data needed to run the service, such as IP address and request logs kept by our hosting and network providers.

How we use it

  • To provide the app: sign you in, store your vocabulary and progress, run practice and the AI tutor, and sync across your devices.
  • To send what you ask for: reminders, push notifications and messages between teachers and students.
  • To bill paid plans and enforce plan limits.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.

We do not sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or advertising trackers. Our legal bases are performing our contract with you, our legitimate interest in running a secure service, and your consent where we ask for it (for example notifications).

AI features

When you use AI features (translation, enrichment, the tutor chat, voice transcription, speech and text recognition in photos), the text, audio or image involved is sent to our AI providers, OpenAI and Anthropic, and for speech to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. They process it to return a result to you and, under their API terms, do not use it to train their models.

Who processes data for us

  • Oracle Cloud (hosting of the app and database) and Cloudflare (network, security and file storage).
  • Google (sign-in and text-to-speech).
  • OpenAI and Anthropic (AI features).
  • Stripe (payments, only for paid plans).
  • Our email delivery service (reminders and messages you opt into).

Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States; where they do, transfers rely on the providers’ standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Cookies and local storage

We use only cookies that the app needs: a sign-in session cookie and a cookie that remembers your language. The app also stores small preferences in your browser (for example the state of a calendar view). We use no advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep data

We keep your account and learning data while your account exists. When you delete your account or ask us to, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep billing records by law. Backups are overwritten within 14 days.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw consent at any time. You can export your vocabulary from the app; for anything else write to [email protected]. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Children

Palavra is not meant for children under 16 without the involvement of a parent, guardian or teacher. If you believe a child has given us data without that, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update the date on this page, and for significant changes we tell you in the app or by email.
